What's a daini botan?

This March, most schools across Japan scaled down graduation ceremonies due to the coronavirus outbreak. Commencement events in Japan are elaborate shows that involve a lot of practice and preparation.

elaborate は意味を調べたら、どういうこと？ってなりました。本紙によるとelaborate shows→立派な式、ということでした。
So it's a big deal not just for those bidding farewell to their school, but also for teachers, parents and members of the local community who take part in singing songs, handing out certificates and delivering speeches to send off the students in style.

There's also a timeless graduation custom where a girl asks a boy for his daini botan- literally, the "second button" of his school uniform jacket. This gesture basically implies she has a crush on him.
